WHO IS MY EXPLORER?

  • Hernan Cortes was born in Spain in 1485.
  • He went to school but was not a good student.
  • He read books when he was young about exploring and travelling to the new world.
  • He sailed out to the new world .
  • He died in 1547 when he was 62 years old on December 2.

WHAT DID MY EXPLORER DO?

  • Cortes wanted to find gold and riches
  • He sailed to what we now know as Mexico.
  • People there were called Aztecs.
  • His soldiers killed everyone in the land.
  • The Aztec ruler Montezuma believed Cortes was their god because he looked like one of their gods named Quetzalcoatl

WHERE DID MY EXPLORER DID HIS EXPLORATIONS?

  • Cortes did his explorations across the Atlantic Ocean.
  • He did it in Cuba and what we now know as Mexico.

WHEN DID MY EXPLORER GO EXPLORING

  • Cortes carried out his explorations between the years of 1511 and 1519.
  • He went on two expeditions.
  • In 1518 he was sent on an expedition to present- day Mexico.

WHY DID MY EXPLORER GO EXPLORING

  • Cortes went because the Govenor of Cuba sent him to the new land to claim it.
  • He wanted to find gold and riches.
  • He always wanted to go on an adventure.

HOW DID MY EXPLORER EXPLORE?

  • Cortes did his explorations by fighting.
  • He brought guns, cannons, soldiers, and ships.
  • He also brought compasses and maps to help navigate where he was sailing.

HOW DID THINGS CHANGE IN THE WORLD AFTER MY EXPLORERS EXPLORATIONS?

  • Cortes found new land which is present-day Mexico.
  • People came over to live in New Spain. (Mexico)
  • He became the governor of New Spain.
  • He is remembered as the person who destroyed and conquered the Aztec empire.

REFLECTIVE COMMENT

  • I think he was a bad person because he killed all of the Aztecs and ruined their empire.
  • He brought guns, cannons, soldiers, and ships on his exploration to do this.
  • He was brave because he traveled from Spain to South America, and it was rough and scary on his ship.
