CHAPTER 3 PRESENTATION

LESSON 1 PERIOD 7

MAIN IDEA OF LESSON 1

  • “By her relationship with Christ, the Church is a kind of sacrament or sign of intimate union with God, and of the unity of all mankind” (LG, 1).
  • The Church, the union of the members, of the Church, with each other in Christ
  • “Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me”

THREE SIGNIFICANT POINTS

  • 1.) the Church as a mystical body of Christ
  • 2.) the marks of the Church
  • 3.) the reason Christ established his church

BIBLE VERSES

  • Mark 4:30 - 32
  • Again he said, “What shall we say the kingdom of God is like, or what parable shall we use to describe it? 31 It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds on earth. 32 Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants, with such big branches that the birds can perch in its shade.”
  • Matthew 21:33-43
  • Listen to another parable: There was a landowner who planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a winepress in it and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to some farmers and moved to another place. 34 When the harvest time approached, he sent his servants to the tenants to collect his fruit. 35 “The tenants seized his servants; they beat one, killed another, and stoned a third. 36 Then he sent other servants to them, more than the first time, and the tenants treated them the same way. 37 Last of all, he sent his son to them. ‘They will respect my son,’ he said. 38 “But when the tenants saw the son, they said to each other, ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him and take his inheritance.’ 39 So they took him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. 40 “Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?” 41 “He will bring those wretches to a wretched end,” they replied, “and he will rent the vineyard to other tenants, who will give him his share of the crop at harvest time.” 42 Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: “‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes’[a]? 43 “Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit.

BIBLE VERSES (con'd)

  • John 10:1-10
  • 10 “Very truly I tell you Pharisees, anyone who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber. 2 The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. 5 But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.” 6 Jesus used this figure of speech, but the Pharisees did not understand what he was telling them. 7 Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. 8 All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. 9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.[a] They will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
  • Matthew 13:47
  • Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish.
