In design, proximity or closeness creates a bond between people and between elements on a page. How close together or far apart elements are placed suggests a relationship (or lack of) between otherwise disparate parts. Unity is also achieved by using a third element to connect distant parts.

Repetition involves having the same thing (object, color, shape, etc) repeated numerous times throughout the design. The repetition is one way to create unity, because all the pieces relate to each other in one way or another.
Continuation is something that is a bit trickier. Not as blatant as the other forms of unity, it is still quite powerful. It simple means that arts of the design or piece is continuing, such as a line or edge.
