THE LAST JUDGEMENT

CREATED BY:

MICHELANGELO

CREATED BY:

MICHELANGELO

TIME AND LOCATION

CREATED BETWEEN 1535-1541 IN THE SISTINE CHAPEL IN VATICAN CITY

WHAT IS DEPICTED?

  • As an ensamble of humans appear in the afterlife, God is viewing them
  • Though many of the humans are embracing Heaven, some are fighting Hell
  • There is a display of humans acts (sacrifice, fighting, and humility)

SIGNIFICANCE

  • Displays that all Catholics will be judged in the afterlife
  • Shows the kind of acts that humans commit and how God views them
  • Could possibly be used as a warning to Catholics thst are living a life on sin
  • This was Michelangelo's second work in the Sistine Chapel (Ceiling Mural)

Based on the art, I view a wake up call of how I should act in life. It displays that God can truly view all our acts in life and that we will be held accountable on the day of Judgement. In general, it taught me just to think before I act, because what I do will catch up with me.
