GREEK LITERATURE

In literature, as in art, the ancient Greeks developed their own style. Later Europeans, Greek styles were a model of perfection.

TRAGIC DRAMA

The most important Greek contribution to literature was in the field of dramas. The Greeks plays evolved out of religious festivals. The greatest Athenian playwrights were Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides. All three were wrote tragedies plays that told stories of human suffering that usually ended in disaster.

GREEK COMEDY

Some Greek playwrights wrote comedies, humorous plays that mocked people or customs. Almost all the the surviving Greek comedies were written by Aristophanes.
