LEIF ERIKSSON

  • Son of Erik the Red
  • Leif Eriksson was born in Iceland around 960 A.D
  • Leif was shipped off course by strong winds in his travels
  • Thorkell Leifsson was the son of Leif Eriksson
  • Thyrker captured Erik the Red and raised Leif Eriksson

CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS

  • Christopher was born in Italy
  • Columbus lived and sailed in Genoa, Italy
  • Christopher, his brothers, and 23 wittiness' were abused to sail
  • Columbus died young for he wasn't nursed as new born
  • Christopher sailed west looking for Asia

FERDINAND MAGELLAN

  • Explored as a Portuguese navigator
  • Died while battling native tribes
  • 18 crew members were the first to circumnavigate the world
  • Their entire journey was 40,000 miles long
  • Magellan continued to sail, yet he was decreased on food and fresh water

  • Shipped European resources were brought from North America
  • New diseases killed many sailers, explorers, and navigators
  • Maize and Potatos were some discoveries found in North America
  • Christopher Columbus was given credit for starting the exchange
  • The Columbian Exchange dramatically changed the world

  • Hernandez Cotes traveled Mexico in the year 1519
  • The Conquistadors enslaved native Americans slaves
  • Conquistadors spread diseases through South America
  • Conquistadors set out to conte native Americans

  • Water route that allowed ships to sail
  • Explorers searched the coast from Canada to North Carolina
  • Jacques Cartier sailed the Northwest Passage
  • John Cabot set out to find this route
  • Giovanni Verrazano also explored put to find this passage

MIDDLE PASSAGE

  • Native American tribes were enslaved as cargo
  • Staked as boxes diseases were spread and many slaves died
  • Suffocation, or Malnutrition were some of the diseases
  • Between the 1520's and the 1860's 12 million slaves were shipped across the world
  • The slave trade led to the African Diaspora
