WHY IT'S IN KINGDOM ANIMALIA

  • multicellular
  • does not produce its own food
  • finds food, shelter, mates

PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS/ APPEARANCE

  • mostly brown feathers
  • gold feathers on back of head and neck
  • adult wingspan - 2m
  • adult height - 75 to 100 cm 
  • females larger than males

HABITAT/ TERRITORY

  • Northern Hemisphere
  • territories, as large as 155 square km
  • large nests - soft vegetation

  • large wings
  • claws/ talons
  • swift

REPRODUCTION

  • monogamus
  • mating, March - August
  • courtship, December
  • lay 1- 4 eggs, white with reddish-brown spots
  • hatch after 35-45 days, chicks hatching at different times

DIET/ HUNTING

  • medium sized creatures: squirrels, hares, rabbits, etc.
  • also eat other birds, reptiles, and fish
  • eat animals larger than itself
