IVAN III, IVAN THE GREAT

  • Nicknamed "Ivan the Great"
  • Gained independence from the mongols
  • Purchased land, helping Russia expand
  • Declares himself sovereign of all Russian people
  • Marries niece of last Byzantine emperor to gain prestige

IVAN THE GREAT

  • Very outstanding Russian czar, compared to everyone else
  • Ruled from April 5th, 1462 - October 27th
  • Married to princess of Tver at 12

IVAN IV, IVAN THE TERRIBLE

  • Age 16 when took up the thrown
  • Very innovative

  • Killed his oldest son, his only legitament heir

PETER THE GREAT

  • Modernized Russia
  • Built St. Petersburg out of a swampland

  • July 9th, 1762 - November 17th, 1796

NICHOLAS II

  • Russia's last czar
  • Renounced the throne under pressure from Bolsheviks
  • He & his family executed in 1918
  • Died in Ekaterinburg
  • Ended Russian monarchy in conjunction with the Bolshevik revolution
