WHEN AND WHERE DID CANALS FIRST EXSIST
The first Canal was made in Worsley to transport large amounts of coal to Manchester.
This Canal is called the Bridgewater Canal and was built in 1761 by James Brindley.

WHY WAS IT CREATED??
The reason why the Bridgewater Canal was created is because it was more efficient and less costly as horseback to transport coal.

BENEFITS OF CANALS
Could carry much more product than a horse or cart
Was a lot faster and more efficent.
Could travel further in a shorter amount of time.
Less costly than using horses for transport.

PROBLEMS
Canals were very successful and came very popular over Britain but as the century progressed roads and railways were improved and this made canals not used as much

LEGACY OF THE INVENTION 21ST CENTURY
Today we use Canals mainly for leisure time with peace and quiet.
