Domino theory

Ho Chi Minh Trail

  • army would be finding their way through. The trail wound through Cambodia an Laos by passing the boarder. North Vietnam received weapons and support from from S.U. Bombing from American planes killed thousands.

Tet offensive

  • On January 30, 1960, the Viet Cong and North Vietnam launched major offensive. Occurred during the Vietnamese New Year. Both sides were guilty of brutal arcities. Was a major turning point in the war

Vietnamization

  • replacing american troops in Vietnam with south Vietnamese soldiers. Nixon Launched Secret bombing raids and expanded the war to Cambodia. The attacks resulted in both Civil war in Cambodia

President Johnson

  • began a gradual escalation of the war. Originally soldiers have been sent to advise the south Vietnamese despite large build of american troops between 1965-1967 the war was at stalemate

Nixon

  • Richard M. Nixon recieved the nomination for president. Soon lead to the national pulls. Nixon stayed "above the fray". Nixon was the presidency in the 1968 election

Hawks and doves

  • Hawks want to fight in the war viciously and doves wanted no war and just peace
