WHAT IS PNEUMONIA ?

  • lung inflammation caused by bacterial or viral infection,
  • in which the air sacs fill with pus and may become solid .

FACTS

  • about 4300 kids a day under the age of 5 die from pneumonia.
  • Pneumonia kills more people than AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis combined
  • 98% of children who die of pneumonia are from developing countries
  • Breast feeding a child in their first 6 months can help prevent pneumonia

MORE FACTS

  • The treatment for most types of serious pneumonia is usually antibiotics
  • Pneumonia and influenza together are ranked as the eighth leading cause of death in the U.S.
  • In 2006, 55,477 people died of pneumonia
  • Pneumonia is mainly caused by viruses, bacteria and other organisms

CAUSES OF PNEUMONIA

  • After you breathe infected air particles into your lungs.
  • You can get it from smoking .
  • Two most common is bacteria and emphysema

TREATMENT

  • Antibiotics and antiviral medications can treat many common forms of pneumonia.
