FIVE PILLARS OF ISLAM

BY: AMANDA TRZASKA AND LAURYN CULLIMORE 3RD

1) Statement of Faith (Shahadah)
The statement of faith is used in daily prayer and is said when they accept Islam. They state their faith by saying "There is no god but God, and Muhammed is his prophet". This must be recited in their lifetime. Said with meaning and heart.

2) Daily Prayer (Salah)
Muslims are required to pray five times a day at specific times in the day. Muslims try and pray together at the mosque. Prayer is believed to be proof that someone has accepted Allah. Each prayer should be at least five minutes but may be lengthened.

3) Yearly Donation to Charity (Zakat)
In this pillar, Muslims must pay a part of their wealth to a religious official. Their money is used to a part of charity hence the yearly donation. Doing this help is part of their Islamic belief. This is considered a service to God.

4) Fasting (Sawm)
In this Pillar Muslims seek richer perception of God. They fast during the holy month of Ramadan. They also perform different rituals to become closer to God. Fasting reminds Muslims of the people who struggle to get food.

5) A pilgrimage to Mecca (Hajj)
It is said that all Muslims must travel to Mecca at least once in their life if possible. The Hajj makes Muslims feel important. It's a connection between history and geography.
