"RESPECT FOR OURSELVES GIUDES OUR MORALS;

RESPECT FOR OTHERS GUIDES OUR MANNERS"

Respect is a two way street; It should be given to be received.

Often times, I feel as if the students and teachers are similar to two negative magnets—

We constantly repel each other because neither independent group will step up, and become positive.

This analogy is not meant to throw gasoline on our burning fire. It is more or less a peace treaty offering.

There is an obvious uncomfortableness in our school environment. Neither party can trust the other, for any long-term period of time.

On the class trip, our supervisors were comfortable with, and even proud of our behavior.

As soon as we got back, however, we started acting up and the mutually trusting relationship was gone.

On the flip side, I feel as if that trust was never obtainable for me.

Despite my efforts to bring forth this trust, it was always out of reach. My 'reputation' has always been a barrier.

I feel as if my 'reputation' was an excuse for yourselves as to why various people including myself have been isolated and targeted this year.

And while I sincerely apologize for these transgressions, I also feel as if it began a vicious cycle of disrespect.

THE VICIOUS CYCLE

  • No respect is shown to students as a result of previous behaviour
  • Students lose respect for authority figures
  • Students act out based on their feelings
  • The lack of respect leads to a misunderstanding of the source
  • The student gets in trouble again

The amendments are a moral and legal code that everyone is required to abide by, and can easily be applied here.

Innocent until proven guilty:
It can be easy to assume the worst, but getting the full story is simply the courteous and respectful thing to do.

In the most recent case, I feel as if I had no representation, and I feel as if conclusions were jumped to much too fast.

In order to reinstate a respectful relationship between each party, we need to be more understanding when adults do make mistakes.

To sum it all up

  • Respect is a mutual relationship
  • We are not the only party at fault
  • Change is imminent with understanding
  • Teachers are not the only people being disrespected
  • We do want to change

RESPECT

FOR OURSELVES

Respect for ourselves is a crucial part of our long term lives. If we have no respect for ourselves, we will all develop bad habits.

We will look to things like drinking and smoking, which may develop bad habits that are impossible to break.

Without respect for ourselves, we have no purpose, and therefore will do anything, as long as we “look cool" doing it.
