Golden Calf Background
The Book of Exodus is part of the Bible, specifically the Old Testament.
Moses is a Man of God.
The Ten Commandments is a set of rules, inscribed in stone, given from God to guide his people through life.
Story of the Golden Calf
As told in the Book of Exodus, Moses was leading the Israelites away from slavery and to the Promised Land. While Moses traveled up Mt. Sinai and was recieving the Ten Commandments, his people had melted down their belongings and molded them into the shape of a calf. When Moses returned, he had seen that the Israelites were worshiping the golden calf and out of anger he had broken the Ten Commandents in half.
The Golden Calf Usage
The "golden calf" is an object or idol, usually a material item, that is worshipped even though it is not worth worshipping.
