According to the "Handbook of College Reading and Study Strategy Research", note taking skills should be implemented early in school. (Armbuster, 2000)

It has been noted that the more a skill like this is practiced, the better it affects individuals in the long run, because once you get used to being organized and using a technique that suits you, it becomes much easier to catch the important information and study it later more efficiently.

VISUAL-SPATIAL INTELLIGENCE

  • Take notes using colored markers and highlighters (to mark important text).
  • Use visuals when taking notes of what you hear and read - images, shapes, designs - to help you remember.
  • Make mental maps. Draw diagrams, graphs and patterns to describe / explain things to yourselF.

Logical-Mathematical Intelligence

  • Organize the main points of a lecture or reading using outline form.
  • Rank different items of information according to their importance.
  • Organize information into different categories to aid memory.

Visual Learners

  • Underlining important words in text (clue words). Highlighting words and phrases that you want to remember in a text.
  • Watch videos that show how something is done and include it in your notes.

Auditory Learners

  • Record lectures, classes, instructions or your own written notes to play back later, perhaps in the car while you are traveling.

Kinesthetic Learners

  • When in class, choose a comfortable spot where you have room to spread out your materials and shift body position when you need to.
  • Take two-column notes.
