  • Owned his own investment operation (Stratton Oakmont) in 1989.

  • Started stealing money from investors.
  • Using drugs & drinking heavily.
  • Addicted to ludes.

FALL

  • His company made millions illegally.
  • The feds caught on to what they were doing.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR ACTIONS

  • In 1999 Belfort pled guilty to security fraud and money laundering.
  • He cooperated with them to shorten his time.
  • He was sentenced to four years in prison in 2003.
  • He was fined 110 million dollars.
  • He only served 22 months in jail.

CONSEQUENCES

  • His wife at the time divorced him.
  • He had to sell his home.
  • Lost most of his cars, and money he had.
  • Had to do time.

LIFE SINCE THEN

  • In 2008 he wrote a book about his experiences, "The Wolf of Wall Street"
  • The following year he released another book, "Catching the Wolf of Wall Street"
  • In 2013 they made "The Wolf of Wall Street" into a movie.
  • He currently lives in Los Angeles.
  • He now operates his own company that provides training for sales and marketing.
