  • Aristocrats were born into wealth
  • Low-Income Commoners
  • White Collar jobs were common

THE RIsE OF JOBS

  • The number of Retails shops in England went from 300 to 2,600 in 15 years
  • The number of Domestic servants went from 900,000 to 1.4 million in 20 years
  • The Middle Class normally had monthly and yearly wages, not hourly.

THE IMPORTANCE OF FAMILY

  • Families took pride in taking responsibility for themselves.
  • Families became sanctuaries of sort from the stress of industrial life.
  • The women created moral and spiritual safe havens for the family.
  • Women didn't normally work outside of the home setting

PREPARING FOR THE NEXT GENERATION

  • More children starting attending school
  • Education became for affordable and attainable
  • Better health care decreased infant mortality
  • Middle class women gave birth to less children

THE MIDDLE CLASS TODAY

  • Average annual income of $51,000
  • More health regulations in the workplace
  • Women are encouraged to have jobs away from home
  • 1.8 billion worldwide make up the global middle class
  • 45% of US Citizens are part of the middle class
