Rosa Parks was born on February 4th , 1913 in Tuskegee, Alabama to mother Leona McCauley and father James McCauley.
She was an international icon of resistance to segregation. On December 1st, 1955 Parks refused to obey bus driver, James F. Blakes' order to give up her seat in the colored section to a white passenger , after the white section was filled up.
OBSTACLES ๐บ
- Rosa Parks had to overcome personal & financial hardships as a result of her defiance . Her arrest caused her to lose her job, and face threats to her life, the life of her family, and the lives of those who supported her.
REMARKABLE THINGS๐ฑ
- When Rosa Parks was helping lay the foundation for the civil rights movement , Dr . King was still in high school.
- Parks was taught as a child to sleep with her clothes on in case she was awakened during the night to run from the Klan.
- Her act of civil disobedience was not pre-meditated.
I LEARNED ๐ฌ๐๐ฝ
- Rosa Parks wasn't the first African American woman to refuse to give up her seat it was 15 year old Claudette Colvin.
"EXAMPLE IS LEADERSHIP" ๐๐ฝ
- Rosa did not tell others to refuse to give up their seat she did it herself, she didn't plan this act of defiance either. She led by example, that is an action of a true leader.
In Rosa's last few years she suffered from dementia which is a broad category of brain diseases that cause a long term & often gradual decrease in the ability to think & remember, which is great enough to affect a person's daily functions.
Sadly Rosa died on October 24th, 2005 in Detroit, Michigan though she lived a long life dying at age 92.... R.I.P ๐๐ฝ
