GIANT PACIFIC OCTOPUS

ARMS

  • The giant pacific has eight arms the back two being the legs the rest being arms
  • The giant pacific arms have no bones which allows it to be flexible and reach into small crevices

SUCKERS

  • Each of the giant pacific's arms has about 280 suckers
  • The suckers function as a sort of sighting device. If you blindfold a squid it can easily identify things by touching them
  • The suckers also function as something to catch prey with.

EYES

  • Pacific octopuses have very advanced eye structures
  • They are similar to human eyes. They have an iris, a pupil, a lens, a retina, and an optic nerve
  • The eyes are used to find mates, make dens, help blend in to the environment and help find prey

BRAINS

  • Since the pacific giant has no defensive adaptations it has to be smart.
  • The pacific giant is said to be smarter than the average octopus.

CHROMATOPHORES

  • These are what allow the octopus to use camoflage.
  • They help the octopus to blend into their environment flawlessly
