UNDERSTAND THE SCENERY

  • What color of lights are needed
  • How bright the lighting should be
  • How the lights should change

KNOW THE MOOD

  • Mostly helps with using color
  • Red- anger
  • Blue- sorrow
  • Yellow- happiness

MEET WITH SET DESIGNER

  • Know the overall look of it
  • Find what kind of moods the lights should create
  • Contrast the lights with the set

CHOOSE CERTAIN TOOLS

  • Know when to use types of light
  • Lightboard
  • Spotlight
  • Lime light
  • Arc light

USE DIRECT AND INDIRECT LIGHTS

  • Direct illuminates specific areas
  • Indirect lights whole stage
  • Direct- spotlight
  • Indirect- fog

CREATE CUE SHEET

  • Sheet that shows all lights used
  • Gives cues for when and where to use lights
  • Helps actors become aware of lighting
  • Easier for light crew

MEET WITH DIRECTOR AND LIGHT CREW

  • Finalize cue sheet
  • Make sure director is aware of all lights
  • Teach light crew when and where to use lights
  • Run play with all lights
