PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Medical Care In The Revolution

By:Alex Stromski

Facts

  • more soldiers died from disease than combat
  • doctors medical procedures were usually basic and sometimes not accurate
  • Often they did not have the right tools for the right job
  • A lot of times sanitation was very poor and doctors lacked training
  • Drs. often had little to no meds so they went straight to amputation

Facts Continued
often soldiers had wounds that required amputation. When this occurred they had little to no medicine so the soldiers would have to have one of their limbs cut off without any medication! On the bright side a experienced dr. could cut off a arm and singe the wound in less than 45 seconds! Often before
procedures the Patriots would be given rum or brandy to ease the pain so it wouldn't hurt as much as it had to. In the end only 35% of people survived amputations at this time.

My Reaction
I was shocked about how little the doctors cared for their patients and how anyone would let doctors with little to no experience do an amputation on someone. Im happy that today i can know and trust my doctor and actually know them and how they operate.
