What are the Major contributions of Medieval Japan? 🌏

• some of the major contributions were that Shotoku created a strong government and created a constitution ( constitution gave all the power to the emperor). Also, ancestors of the Japanese called "Yayoi" introduced the pottery and rice patties to japan. They were also skilled in metal working and created and made axes, knives, swords, spears, and bells that are still used today. Also, another contribution was terrace farming. The Japanese created terrace farming so they could have more fertile land to farm on, that is still used to this day.

How did the geography affect the development of the Japanese civilization?🍃

• The geography of japan had rugged land/terrain with many forested or snow covered mountains and a lot of sea access. Japan is made up of several islands which made it easy for ships to travel from island to island. Since there were many mountains in japan they had limited fertile land to farm on so many local armies would fight over the few patches of fertile land. Also, the Sea of Japan serves as a sea route and a barrier between china and japan. And between most mountain ranges in japan there were many large plains , wide river valleys, and smaller areas suitable for farming. In addition, since there were so many mountains they also developed terrace farming.

What did the social hierarchy of feudal japan look like? 🎎

• the social hierarchy of japan went shogun, daimyo, samurai, farmers, artisans, and merchants. Shoguns were the highest ranking nobles and held more power then the emperor. They held more power and control in the government. The daimyo were like the emperors that held little power and were more of a religious figure, and were the most powerful rulers under the shogun from the 10th to 19th century. Samurais were the worriers that held a higher status then the common people.👉

Farmers and peasants were the ones that farmed the land and held a higher status then artisans and merchants because the Japanese believed that since they used their hands to produce things they would be ranked higher. Artisans and merchants are last because the things they traded or made were not shared amongst the people or didn't use their hands they were the lowest.

What was the architecture and art like in japan? 🎨

• architecture and art in japan was meant to show religion and Japanese love of beauty and simplicity. Most Japanese architecture was borrowed from china and the Japanese changed it a little to make it their own. In Japanese architecture the buildings had massive slanted or curved tiled roofs held up by wooden pillars and were richly decorated and had gardens and pathways outside around the buildings, and had many statues, paintings, and alters on the buildings too. 👉

Most of Japanese art was also borrowed from china and Korea that Japanese changed it a bit to make it their own too. Japanese art like sculptures were associated with religion and did many landscape paintings also. Also, on many of the furniture and statues they used a shiny black and red coating called lacquer on them too.
