STARTED AROUND 1790 AND ENDED AROUND 1830

The Textile Industry
The demand for clothing grew during this period
Many factories were built to produce textile faster
The factories had awful working conditions
They employed a lot of children

THE INDUSTRIAL NORTH
Was made up of mainly factories
Greater manufacturing power
No slaves or plantations
The people favored tariffs on European goods
Favored a strong national government

THE AGRICULTURAL SOUTH
Made up of mostly farms and plantations
Slavery was legal in the South
Opposed tariffs that raised prices on European goods
Most of the population was sectionalists
Favored state rights

Revolutionized the separation of cotton

Lead to the growth of slavery in the South
Cotton was the main cash crop in the south

Boats ran through canals and rivers
Steam powered boats and locomotives played a big role

Factory systems were dependant on mangers
Stock exchange was eventually founded
The banks industrially rose and prospered

Was devoted to farming and cultivating the land
Was a lot weaker then the North
More work was done in factories then on farms

A lot more profit was made in the North
It was faster to make goods in a factory then a farm
There were more trading ports for goods
The North could mass produce goods more efficiently

Men did the hard labor
