The Supremes
The supremes were an African American female singing group in the 1960s
They were originally founded as The Primettes in 1959
Founding members: Florence Ballard, Mary Wilson, Diana Ross, Betty McGlown
In 1960 McGlown was replaced by Barbara Martin
The same year, the Primettes signed with Motown Records as the Supremes

In 1965 they set a record for most consecutive number 1 hits
In 1967, the group was renamed "Diana Ross and The Supremes"
During the 1960s they rivaled the Beatles for worldwide popularity
When Ross left to pursue a solo career, they went back to the Supremes
Ross was replaced by Jean Terell who was replaced by Scherrie Payne

On June 12, 1977 the group was disbanded
This happened after their last performance at London's Drury Lane
