TABLE OF CONTENTS (CONT. CONT.)

  • T - Translation
  • U - Undefined Slope
  • V - Variable
  • W - Whole Number
  • X - X- intercept
  • Y - Y- intercept
  • Z - Zero Property

A

  • Adjacent Angles
  • An adjacent angle is angles that share a common vertex, common side, and don't overlap

B

  • Base (Exponet Wise)
  • Base - in a power, the number that is the common factor.

C

  • Cubed Root - a number that multiples itself 3 times in order to create a cubic value.

D

  • The diameter is a circle cut through the middle

E

  • Exponet - in a power, the number of times the base is used as a factor.

F

  • Fraction- a numeral quantity that is not a whole number

G

  • Graphs- a diagram showing the relation between variable quantities.
  • Typically of 2 variables

H

  • Height - a measure of a polygon or solid figure, Taken as a perpendicular rom the base of the figures.
  • (BxH wise)

I

  • Integer- any negative or positive whole number including zero

J

  • Joint Variation- Directly proportional to each variable taken 1 at a time.

K

  • Kite- Quadrilateral whose 4 sides can be grouped into 2 pairs of equal length side that are adjacent to each other.

L

  • Logarithm- a quantity representing the power to which a fixed number (base) must be raised to produce a given number.

M

  • Mixed Number- a fraction with a whole number in front of it
  • Ex: 3 1/5

N

  • Negative Exponent- an exponent that is negative.
  • 8 to the -2 power changes to 1/8 to the 2 power. It becomes a positive.

O

  • Ordered Pair- a pair of elements. (A,b). They help you locate the correct number on a graph
  • Ex: (2,3) that means you go to the right 2 and up 3

P

  • Parallel lines- lines that can keep on going forever and never intersect

Q

  • Quadrant- each of 4 parts of a plane divided by 2 lines or planes at right angles

R

  • Rational number- any number that can be expressed as a quotient or fraction.

S

  • Scale- when you reduce or enlarge something from its regular size.

T

  • Translation- a shape sliding. TranSLation.

U

  • Undefined Slope- the slope of a vertical line.

V

  • Variable- a letter representing a number.

W

  • Whole number- a number that is not a fraction nor decimal or root.

X

  • X - intercept- where the graph crosses the x - axis

Y

  • Y - intercept- where the graph crosses the Y- intercept

Z

  • Zero Property- product of 2 non-zero elements is non-zero
  • Ex: 2 + 0 = 2
