Comparing Salva and the Lost Boys

Sudan and the United States

Salva, just liked the Lost Boys was separated from his family. He was in school when he was separated. Some of the lost boys witnessed more traumatic events like their sisters and mothers being sold into slavery.

Salva and the Lost Boys traveled the same path across Sudan into Ethiopia. Salva struggled with his identity as a child or adult, but the lost boys were forced to grow up very quick.

Salva and the Lost Boys both crossed the Gilo River and lived in the Regugee Camps. Park described the horrific scenes witnessed at the Gilo River, but the Lost Boys were able to truly describe what it was like. They helped the reader to visualize the scenes encountered.

In my opinion, I think both texts portrayed the information well, but in different ways. I think Linda Sue Park did a good job of portraying what goes through a person's mind when they are experiencing events like a Civil War. I think 60 Minutes did a better job of making viewers aware of the horrors the Sudanese people were experiencing.
