Key Concept: Audience

MainStream

• Mainstream is the most common and popular subject among the populace, this can apply to music, films, clothling and much more.
• This can be applied to our music video, because the song and the band is mainstream Indie, this shows it is popular among the majority of Indie fans. Another mainstream aseptic we will apply to our music video would be the clothing we are wearing for our music video. The clothing we have decided to use is casual clothing, this is due to being that we are targeting our audience on young adults, this clothing is also common for them and Indie music videos have also branded themselves wearing casual clothes and becoming iconic for that genre. Some examples of mainstream aspects can be seen in the music video Kodaline - " Love will set you free ". In this music video we can see that the clothing is casual and wore from the band, this shows that casual clothing is iconic and popular among Indie bands and music videos. Another aspect would be that the locations, they span between his house, gigs and beaches. This shows that the band wants to seem more relate-able than other bands.
• In conclusion I will take these mainstream aspects of the Indie genre and apply them to outr music video.

Niche

• Niche is the opposite of Mainstream, where a small targeted group likes that type of subject, these people are often called "hipsters".
• This applies to our music video, because Indie music as a whole is one of the least popular music compared to Rock and Pop, however the band we have chosen is well known and mainstream, despite the genre (Kodaline). Some examples of niche videos and bands would be The Gaslight Anthem, they have been to Reading festival and some of there videos reaching over a million views, they are incredibly small and being crushed by the other larger band titles, this can also be seen from the amount of small amount of followrs they have being only around 28,000.

Ideology

• Ideology is ideas and ideals which affect the theory of economic, polictical and policy.
• I will apply this to my music video by showing familiar and unique ideas for our music video, this can be applied to the plot, characters, mise-en-scene and cinematography of the music video.

Hegemony

• Hegemony is leadership or dominance among a single state or group over others.
• I will apply this to my music video by showing the audience strong main characters and how personal they are towards the audience throughout the music video. I will also show a familiar sense of style towards indie music, this can be applied to the mise-en-scene, for example the characters, clothing and environment around them. Some examples of hegemony used in other music videos would be in the music video, Bring me the Horizon - " Drown", here we can see a key sense of style for the rock genre, for example the clothing and tattoos of the bands, which is common among most rock videos, as well as a Halloween styled plot.

• After doing my analysis I have found that over half of my results are from ages 12 - 18, this shows that most teenagers and young adults are my target audience to my music videos, this is due to the majority of people who watch music videos.

• In my analysis of how often people watch music videos, the most common answer is daily. After that the results drop lower and lower for weekly, monthly etc. I have also seen that out of my 20 results no one watches them yearly, this shows that music videos are most commonly watched daily and weekly and is popular.

• After my analysis the most common result was using a computer, followed closely by phone and then tablet. All the results are well over the 50% mark and show me that music videos are comonly watched on all these platforms, this could be because of the use of Facebook and Youtube which is on these devices and most teenagers have, which show music videos. Another reason could be that most people have access to these devices at home and on the go, thus showing high results.

Favourite music video genre - Analysis

• After my analysis I can see that the most popular genre is Pop, nearly reaching 50% of my results. This shows it is the most popular genre of music video to watch. I can also see that one of the results, dub step, wasn't considered and was left with 0 people leaving it with there favourites. The genre we have deciced for our music video is Indie, the results show that Indie has 15% of results, this shows that it is niche, however isn't as unpopular when compared to rap and dub step with lower results. These results will help me work on our music to try and impress our taregt audience with the correct mise-en-scene and feel of the music video and introducing them with our characters and plot.
