Advent wreath The advent wreath is a wreath made out of leaves and is put out in the Advent time, hence the name. In the wreath people put out five candles, 3 purple, one pink and one white. Each week you would light one candle except the white one in the middle which you light on Christmas Day.
Leaves The leaves are one of the most symbolic things about the wreath. The leaves are arranged in a circular formation with no beginning or end which symbolises the eternity of God and the immortality of the soul. It also represents the everlasting life found in God.
Leaves The leaves are special as well because they are different types of evergreen leaves which signify continuous life. Laurel signifies victory over persecution and suffering, pine, holly and yew signify immortality and Cedar signifies strength and healing. The green also represents life and it's never ending. Holly also has another meaning it's prickly leaves also reminds us of the crown of thorns Jesus wore.any pine cones, nuts or seed pods used to decorate symbolise life and resurrection.
Candles Their are 4 candles in the wreath which represent the 4 weeks of advent, there is also another candle which we light on Christmas. There are 3 purple, 1 pink and 1 white. We light the candles as the weeks go past to symbolise expectation and hope surrounding our lords birth into the world.
Candles The 3 purple candles represent prayer, penance, preparatory, sacrifice and goods work undertaken at this time. The pink candle also known as the rose candle is lit on the third Sunday because the faithful have arrived at the mid point of Advent, when everyone's preparation is half over and they are close to Christmas.
