1861- confederates try to steal weaponry.

1861-Lincoln sends 100,000 soldiers to Richmond.

1862- bloodiest battle of United States history.

1862- lasted two days and contributed to the union gaining control of the Mississippi.

1862- lasted six weeks until they surrendered because they were starving.

1862-either freed or escaped slaves joined the army as laborers.

1862-Lincoln frees the slaves which made the south weaker.

1863-the confederate wanted to win on union soil but eventually surrendered.

1865-Lee surrenders to Grant at Appomattox courthouse.
