THE JOURNEY BEGINS

  • dying would not get you to the land of Two Fields.
  • You had to earn a place in Ra's boat.
  • To board Ra's boat, your heart had to be light
  • There were many obstacles to face
  • Re's boat sailed through the River of Night on the west side of the Nile.

THE JOURNEY BEGINS

  • Before a Pharaoh could face the trials of the Twelve Great Halls,
  • he first had to secure passage in the form of a boat
  • that would carry him down the river of the Underworld
  • There he would begin his adventure

THE FIRST GATE

  • The Pharaoh will greet souls of the dead here
  • They would destroy those who were evil

THE SECOND GATE

  • Much like Heaven and Hell
  • chamber divided into top, middle, and bottom
  • The top was where the “blessed souls” resided
  • the bottom was for the evil and wicked.

THE THIRD GATE

  • the Pharaoh would be faced with a lake of fire
  • The lake would only hurt the wicked
  • if the Pharaoh was not tainted by wickedness
  • he would have no trouble traversing the fiery lake

THE FOURTH GATE

  • It had three levels as well.
  • Inside the top, the Pharaoh was met with two lakes
  • The middle level had shrines dedicated at nine gods that followed Osiris.
  • It was the Pharaoh’s duty to feed them after he had resurrected them.
  • Finally, they came to the Arit gate

THE FIFTH GATE

  • In this gate Pharaoh would have his heart weighed.
  • If his heart was light, lighter than a feather He would enter the afterlife
  • If his heart is heavy then a serpent god would devour you and your heart

THE TENTH GATE

  • The tenth gate is, by far, the most climactic.
  • The pharaoh fights in a cavern fighting with his archenemy, Apophish
  • And his army

THE ELEVENTH GATE

  • The gods took Apophis and his 'army'
  • and rendered them incapable of further attack through dismemberment
  • The war was over and the gods rejoiced.

THE TWELTH GATE

  • The Egyptians believe that in the after life you live the same life
  • They had servants called shabti.
  • The shabits do their masters work in the afterlife of Egypt also called the two fields.
  • Everyone keeps doing what they did in the world of the living.

WE

  • skip all of the least important gates
  • So you would not get bored
