Haiti has had economic problems for decades, as far back as 200 years ago. The richest 1 percent of Haiti's population controls Haiti. 78 percent of the population live on less than $2 U.S. money per day.

When Papa Doc became president for life it changed everyone and their daily routines.Papa Doc misused aid money for his people and instead put that money into personal bank accounts.

15 million dollars sent from the U.S. annually to help the citizens of Haiti was also a part of his plan.Another method to obtain foreign money was to gain foreign loans. This included 4 million dollars from a Cuban dictator.

So to summarize, Haiti's economy went from strong,(before Papa Doc), to weak,(after Papa Doc). However, the people of Haiti are hopeful that their economy will recover in the months and years to come.

Social (Maddie Phillips)
Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world. More than half of Haitians live less than $2 per day. Also, Haiti is also one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere. Also in Haiti they imposed a three- tiered social structure

At the top of the social and political ladder was the white elite. At the bottom of the social structure were the slaves, most whom had been transported from Africa.

Social class in Haiti uses a class structure that group people cording to wealth, education, and type of persecution.
