CIVILIZATIONS IN CENTRAL AMERICA

MAYA 1500 B.C- 1546 A.D.

  • They were traders and merchants and had trade routes through modern-day Mexico and Central America
  • They grounded corn to make a drink called “atole” or to cook as flat cakes known as “tortillas”. Another popular drink among they made the “balche” which is made from fermented honey mixed with the bark of the balche tree.

  • The Inca leadership encouraged the worship of Inti - the sun god
  • Music was part of their ceremony. They knew how to smelt and cast metals, so they made many different types of instruments such as trumpets and bells

  • believed to have begun as a northern tribe of hunter-gatherers whose name came from that of their homeland, Aztlan (or “White Land”).
  • They built beautiful and sophisticated cities.
