- Waves in the EM spectrum with the highest frequecncey and shortest wavelength
- They are known in space to have gamma bursts
LOCATION AND QUALITIES
- At the end of the EM spectrum
- Has the highest fequency
- Shortest wavelength
- 10(16) Hz to more than 10(24) Hz
Effects on human health
-Considered the primary hazard to the general population during the majority of radiological emergencies
-the most severe radiation sickness is mostly from the gamma radiation
- in potassium which is found in soil, water, meats bananas, and other high potassium foods
-in radium which is a source of radiation for radiotherapy
-prevented by avoiding devices that use gamma rays and assuring doctors or dentist that use these devices have proper qualifications

CANCER TREATMENT
- Because gamma rays kill livings cells they are used to kill cancer cells
- Gamma rays focus on tumors
- They are used to target the DNA in cancer cells to destroy it
