HISTORY OF THE PROTESTS

  • Main protests began in January of 2011
  • Citizens wanted to amend the constitution and get rid of their poor economy
  • Their government proposed to modify the constitution
  • But, people were still killed while attempting to overthrow the government

  • The leader was forced to step down

TODAY

  • In Yemen there are still disputes between the government and local gunmen
  • Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi took to office after the president was forced from power
  • There should be elections in February 2014.
  • Faces problems with poverty and malnutrition, Al Queda,
  • Secessionist movement in the south, and rebels in the north

THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY

  • GCC (Gulf Co-operation Council) attempted to get Saleh to step down.
  • UN (United Nation) investigated Yemeni ships and cargo
  • "(Authorities) lost effective control of parts of the country" -UN report

POSITION OF USA

  • Drones killed 12 suspected murderers
  • Drones killed 3 suspected Al-Qaeda members

REVOLUTION?

  • Yemen IS going through a revolution
  • The people are trying to get a change made
  • Some are attempting to overthrow the government
  • The people believe the outcome will be beneficial for the country/society
