NOCTURNAL

Owls are nocturnal, which means they hunt at night and are awake at night.

HUNTING FEATURES

  • Owls have soft feathers to help them stay silent when flying.
  • Owls have amazing eyesight
  • Owls can rotate their heads 270°

BIG EYES

It helps them see a bigger are without turning their head a lot.

EYE MOVEMENT

Owls eyes remain fixed because they have no muscles, so they rotate their head to make up for it.

CONES

Owls can't see color because they do not have cones in their eyes.

HEARING

Owls have ears at different places in their head.

CLAWS

Owls claws are called talons

LEGS

Owls keep their legs protected so they don't get hurt.

FEATHERS

Owls have fringed wings go silent flight

EATING

Owls are 3 weeks old when they can swallow prey whole.

OWL PELLETS

Owls digest the meat and regurgitate the bones and fur.

Owls eat small rodents like rats and mice.

Owls lay their eggs in 2 week intervals

FOOD SOURCE

Owl food sources are plummeting so they have to find their own territory to hunt.

Owls can live up to 20 years.
