  • Roman Emperor from 54 to 68
  • The last ruler in the Julio-Claudian dynasty
  • Infamously known as the Emperor who "fiddled while Rome burned"
  • An early prosecutor of Roman Christians
  • Adopted by his great-uncle Claudius

WHY IS NERO WELL KNOWN?

  • Nero was well known because he was insane
  • He was the complete opposite of a good leader
  • He even ordered senate members to kill themselves
  • When authority started to catch on, he killed himself

WHAT IS NERO KNOWN FOR?

  • Nero is known for the apocryphal story that he fiddled while rome burned
  • During his rule he murdered his own mother and his two wives
  • Experts and ancient writers claimed he started the great fire
  • Nero was an insane man who killed and enjoyed seeing people die

BRIEF HISTORY

  • A.D. 37 to June, A.D. 68
  • Adopted and raised by his great-uncle to become his heir and succesor
  • Succeeded his great-uncle Claudius' throne upon his death in 54
  • Focused much of his attention on diplomacy, trade, enhancing the cultural
  • life of the Empire.

BRIEF HISTORY

  • During his reign, the redoubtable general Corbulo conudcted a succesful
  • war and negotiated peace with the Parthian Empire
  • Facing a false report of being denounced as a public enemy who was to be
  • executed, he commited suicide on 9 June 68
  • His death entered the Julio-Claudian dynasty
