  • Carbohydrates are the body's main source of fuel
  • They are used by the body for energy

WHAT DO CARBS DO FOR OUR BODIES?

  • They make energy for our bodies to function
  • They protect the body's muscles
  • Assist in the body's absorption of calcium
  • May help lower cholesterol levels
  • May regulate blood pressure

WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU HAVE TOO MUCH?

  • Can cause rapid strikes in your blood sugar
  • It can lead to an energy crash later on

WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU HAVE TOO LITTLE CARBS?

  • Will drain your energy and drag you down
  • Low carb diet with increased protein diet can result in weight loss
  • Ketosis occurs when your body runs out of carbs
  • It causes headaches, nausea, and difficulty focusing

FOODS THAT CONTAIN CARBS

  • Cookies & cakes
  • Bread
  • Fries
  • Flour
  • Pizza

GOOD AND BAD CARBS

  • Good: fruits, oatmeal, vegetables, whole-grain
  • Bad: refined grains, sugary cereals, cookies, candy
