Early Life

Neil armstrong was born August 5,1930 in Wapakoneto, Ohio. Neil loved aircraft. He started when he was 15. He got his pilots license. The moment Neil took his first plane ride he always wanted to go higher. When Neil was a kid he was fascinated with plane models. As a kid Neil read 90 books. In first grade he skipped second because he was so smart.

Neil played baseball and football and also liked building model airplanes. After his very first airplane ride he was six years old. His father took him to a nearby airport. Neil was eager to learn more and the machine that took people so high above earth. He went to a hobby store put together simple models powered by rubber bands. Soon he was building more airplanes using wood wire.

Major Accomplishments

He was the first man on the moon in 1968 in the Gemini 8 mission. He was the pilot but the trip was cut short. On December 23, 1968 Neil became commander of Apollo 11. The US was in a race with the Soviet Union to put the first man on the moon and Neil Armstrong was the first man on the moon.

Character Traits

He was the command pilot of the Gemini 8. He was very courageous. He was intelligent because he was the command pilot of the the space ship. He went to a university. He got his bachelors degree in aero space engineering. He later got his masters degree at the University of Southern California. During college, Neil was called up by the US navy and became a fighter pilot.

Neil earned the Eagle Scout badge in Boy Scouts.

Six hundred million people watched the first moon walker.

The footprints made by Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin are still on the moon. The dust is thick but there isn't any wind to remove them.
