TAOISM

ORIGINS AND FOUNDERS

  • Lao-Tse founded it
  • Taoism means "The Path" or "The Way"
  • Made from Chinese philosophies that were merged into one teaching

PRINCIPALS

  • The teaching of this religion is based on achieving balance and harmony
  • The symbol most used with Taoism is The yin/yang
  • Three jewels: compassion, moderation, humility.
  • Strong belief in nature for it balances harmony and peace

DIFFUSION

  • Spread quickly into the land surrounding China
  • Since then it has been incorporated into one teaching for Buddhism and Shintoism
  • Primarily stayed in China

ORIGIN AND FOUNDER

  • Originated in India and used Hinduism in its practice
  • Siddhartha Gautama founded Buddhism, his nickname was Buddha
  • Buddha made the Buddhist believe suffering was cause by desire

  • Desire is the cause of suffering
  • The core of Buddhism is based on the Four Nobles and the Eightfold Path
  • Buddha thinks that deities are real but cannot help you in any way
  • Buddhism believes in reincarnation into another life

DIFFUSION

  • Spread to South-East and East Asia
  • Spread really fast during Murrya Empire under Ashoka
  • Always looking to convert people

CONFUCIANISM

FOUNDER AND ORIGINS

  • Started in China during the Zhou dynasty
  • Founder is Kung Fu-Tzu
  • Trying to return the moral character to people

PRINCIPALS

  • Trying to restore the Moral Standards of the Aincients
  • Not a religion but rather an Ethical code
  • Believes in the 5 relationships
  • Wishes to fulfill harmony and peace on earth

DIFFUSION

  • Spread by Confucious' followers as they were placed in government
  • Spread around the Area of China
  • Didn't thrive to spread this religion
