Knowledge and Skills. 2.1 (C) select tools, including real objects, manipulatives, paper and pencil, and technology as appropriate, and techniques, including mental math, estimation, and number sense as appropriate, to solve problems.

YOU WILL NEED:

  • "Clear the Board" sheets.
  • Linking cubes
  • 2 dice for each group
  • Happy 2nd graders

HOW TO PLAY:

  • Group students in groups of 2-4.
  • Give each group a "Clear the Board" sheet.
  • Each student in the group gets 10 linking cubes.
  • Each person has 10 of the same color, but different from the other players.

  • Students will take apart their cubes and place them in any square on the board.
  • There can only be one cube in each square.
  • Pick a student to go first.
  • Student rolls the dice and adds the numbers together.

  • If one of their cubes is on the column with the sum of the two dice, they get to take their cube off.
  • If they do not have a cube in that column, it's the next person's turn.
  • Student's keep playing until one person has removed all of their cubes.
