WHO WHEN AND WHERE?

  • June 6, 1944
  • Normandy France
  • USA Canada and Great Britain versus Germany

WHY?

  • The Germans were allied with the Japanese which were now at war with the USA. So the Germans declared war on the United States.

WHAT HAPPENED

  • U.S. Canada, and Britain land on the Normandy coast.
  • USA drops paratroopers inland but dropped in the wrong area.
  • The allied troops on the beach and from inland fight towards each other surrounding the Germans.

Allies overwhelm the Germans and win.

SIGNIFCANCE

  • D-Day spearheaded the war in Europe for the US.
  • It was the end of the beginning with the war in Europe ending only 336 days after the first landings.
