  • Stratosphere
  • Mesosphere
  • Thermosphere

THE TROPOSPHERE

  • This is the lowest layer and the layer that we live in
  • This is where all of earth's weather occurs
  • This layer varies from 16km to 9km around the poles
  • Every km you go up the temperature increases by about 6.5'C

THE STRATOSPHERE

  • It extends about 50km over the earth
  • The upper stratosphere is surprisingly warmer that the lower.
  • The stratosphere is the layer that contains the ozone.
  • The stratosphere stops ultraviolet radiation so it doesn't harm living things

THE MESOSPHERE

  • It starts at 50km and ends at 80km
  • The mesosphere stops meteors from hitting the ground
  • In the outer mesosphere temperatures approach about 90'C

THE THERMOSPHERE

  • It extends outward at 80km to space
  • This layer is where the Northern Lights are formed in Fairbanks Alaska
  • The air in the Thermosphere is 1,800'C but the molecules are so spread out so it feels like 0'C
