Dog tags:
Military ID cards are required to travel on and off military installations, access commissaries and post exchanges and serve members rank, branch of service and the Geneva convention category he falls. Dog tags (also identification tags) serve to convey a service members; social security number, blood type and religious preference in case the service members becomes a casualty.
21 gun salute:
The practice of firing gun salutes has existed for centuries. Early warriors demonstrated their peaceful intentions by placing their weapons in a positions that rendered them ineffective. Apparently this custom was universal, with the specific act varying with time and place, depending on the weapons being used.
Memorial Day:
A day which those who died in active military service are remembered, traditionally observed on May 30 but now officially observed on the last Monday in May.
The tomb of the unknown soldiers: on March 4, 1921, congress approved of an unidentified American soldier, following the custom adopted by other allied countries after world war 1. The site was to be the plaza of Arlington national cemeteries memorial amphitheater, which had been dedicated the previous year.
American flag: the 50 stars on the flag represent the 50 states of the United States of America no the 13 stripes represents the thirteen British colonies.
Taps: up to the civil war , the traditional call at day's end as a tune borrowed from the French, called lights out. In July of 1862, in the aftermath of the bloody seven days battles, hard on the loss of 600 men and wounded himself, union General Daniel Adams butterfield called the brigade bulgar to his tent. He thought lights out was to formal and he wished to honor his men
The soldiers creed: it represents what the soldier is and what he/she needs to do to help this country.
