And ended July 3, 1863

George Meade (Union)

Robert E. Lee (confederate)

Lee led his army north.

Meade was ordered to pursue Lee's army and stop his advance north

Gettysburg was the deadliest battle of the civil war. Today there is a memorial there to honor the soldiers who lost their lives during the battle of Gettysburg.

The Union won the battle of Gettysburg

The Union got an advantage from this battle because Meade had enough soldiers left after the battle to go into another battle
