WHY ARE THERE OBLIGATIONS?

  • The feasts are called obligations in the first Precept
  • They are days of joy
  • The most important feasts are celebrated these days

JANUARY 1

  • Mary, Mother of God
  • Celebrated in the Universal Church and in Canada
  • No obligation if it falls on Monday or Saturday in the U.S.

JANUARY 6

  • The Epiphany
  • Celebrated by the Universal Church and Ireland
  • Celebrated the following Sunday in the U.S.
  • England and Wales have no obligation if it falls on Sunday or Monday
  • Celebrated on the Sunday between the 2nd and the 8th in Aus. And Can.

MARCH 19

  • St. Joseph
  • Celebrated by the Universal Church

THE SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY

  • Holy Body and Blood of Christ
  • Celebrated by the UC, England, Wales, and Ireland
  • Celebrated on the following Sunday in the U.S., Canada, and Australia

AUGUST 15

  • Assumption
  • Celebrated by the Universal Church and Ireland
  • England, Wales, Australia, and the U.S. have no obligation on Saturdays or Mondays

NOVEMEBER 1

  • All Saints
  • Celebrated by the UC and Ireland
  • England, Wales, Australia, and the US don't celebrate this on Saturdays or Mondays

DECEMBER 8

  • The Immaculate Concption
  • This is celebrated by the UC and the US

DECEMBER 25

  • Christmas
  • Celebrated by the Universal Church and every country

HOW DO WE CELEBRATE?

  • On these days, we are obliged to go to Mass
  • When in Mass, we are really celebrating with the angels and saints
