PRESENTATION OUTLINE

the water cycle

MRS.JORDAn

The water cycle is the processes by which water circulates between the Earth's oceans, atmosphere, and land, involving precipitation as rain and snow, drainage in streams and rivers, and return to the atmosphere by transpiration and evaporation.

Evaporation takes place when liquid turns into gas.

Transpiration is the process by which moisture is carried through plants from roots to small pores on the underside of leaves, where it changes to vapor and is released to the atmosphere.

Condensation is when water that collects as droplets on a cold surface when humid air is contact with it.

Precipitation is rain, snow, sleet, or hail that falls to the ground.

Collection is when water that falls from the clouds as rain, snow, hail or sleet, collects in the oceans, rivers, lakes, streams.

Surface runoff is water, from rain, snowmelt, or other sources, that flows over the land surface, and is a major component of the water cycle.

Water is perhaps the most important component of any ecosystem. All living organisms need water to grow and survive. In an ecosystem, water cycles through the atmosphere, soil, rivers, lakes, and oceans. Some water is stored deep in the earth.
