Energy

  • The capacity for doing work or supplying heat.
  • Weightless, odorless, and tasteless.

Heat

  • A form of energy that can be transferred from one object to another due to the tempreature difference between them

Endothermic reaction

  • Heat is absorbed
  • Heat is on the reactant side
  • feels "cold"
  • Product is higher than the reactants
  • It's positive

Exothermic reaction

  • Heat is released
  • Heat is a product
  • Feels warm
  • The product is lower than the reactants.
  • It's negative

Calorimetry

  • Calorie: The energy needed to raise 1g of water 1 degree.
  • Joule: A unit of energy.
  • Heat Capacity: The amount of heat needed to raise the temperature of an object 1 degree.
  • Specific Heat Capacity: The heat needed to raise 1g of a substance 1 degree.
