INTRODUCTION

  • Promiscuity has often been linked to having "daddy issues"
  • Much research suggest that a weaker father daughter relationship
  • leads to more sexual risk taking

My Study
I wanted to investigate whether the strength of a fathers relationship with his daughter relates to her sexuality later in life?

Participants
Were all collegiate female volunteers primarily from GW and Pepperdine between the ages 19-25

Survey
The survey was given via survey monkey. Participants were given the link to the survey via Facebook invites.

Questions were designed by me to discover the family structure each individual grew up with, strength of relationships, and amount of sexual activity they have taken part in in the past, and psychosexual thoughts and beliefs

Results
Made a point system four overall sexuality and father daughter closeness and then compared the two using the Pearson correlation coefficient

There was a very weak correlation between the two variables ( the strength r= .071 and the significance level was p= .665) pointing out that results were probably due to chance

The mean of overall sexuality for strong relationships between the father daughter was 27.65 and for weak relationships it was 30.85

Limitations
Sample size was small due to the fact that I could only survey those who volunteered online. Also both schools are high academic and affluent schools so there was not great amount of diversity in that aspect. Also b/c of self report people may have different perspectives

Implications
If more test are run and they have a strong correlation people in places like pediatrics can know which one of their patients are more at risk and should receive more guidance.
