Research

1. Does the profession have a good handle on what is expected of quality librarians? 2. Do we provide the research to support those expectations? 2. What are we strongest at and what are we missing?

Librarianship

Our Role in the Future
Over the last three courses, we have:
A. DISCUSSED progression in the profession.
- - -From the Flexner Report
- - -to political movements
- - -to Dale Vande Haar’s
dissertation on the history
of public school libraries,
B. STUDIED how the profession has grown and changed over the last 100 years or so.
1. Do you feel the profession is equipped for the future?
2. What will the demands on librarianship be in the future?

Our Standards

Is there a need for adjustments?
Are the current standards - both for professional preparation programs and learners - a good basis for what we need in 21st Century school libraries?

What, if anything, needs to change or be included?

history??
critical reading skills??
partners??

School Library Education Programs

Are they sustainable for our future?
We are currently working on course outlines for school library programs.

1. What course or skills focus
do you think should be
included in today's school
library certification programs
that would better prepare
pre-service librarians in not
only meeting the
informational needs of students but also better promote continued professional growth in the newly employed librarian?
