PRESENTATION OUTLINE
1.
WIND POWER
NGAN - ISAIAH - FABIOLA
2.
WHAT IS IT ?
Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into a useful form of energy
Using wind turbines to make electrical power, windmills for mechanical power
windpumps for water pumping or drainage, or sails to propel ships.
It is very consistent from year to year
but has significant variation over shorter time scales
3.
USEFUL
Wind power, as an alternative to fossil fuels, is plentiful, renewable, widely distributed, clean
produces no greenhouse gas emissions during operation and uses little land
Remote areas that are not connected to the electricity power grid can use wind turbines
to produce their own supply
Renewable and sustainable
4.
DOWNSIDES
The strength of the wind is not constant, this mean wind turbines
do not produce the same amount of energy at all time
Wind turbines are noisy
Only produce considerable amount of energy
Cost a lot of money to build and aquire one
5.
EFFECTS ON ENVIRONMENT
generally less problematic than those from other power sources.
The environmental impact of wind power is relatively minor in terms of pollution
Wind power consumes no fuel, and emits no air pollution, unlike fossil fuel power sources
Impact wild life, like birds or bats
Localized impact on night-time temperatures and weather
