PRESENTATION OUTLINE

WIND POWER

NGAN - ISAIAH - FABIOLA

WHAT IS IT ?

  • Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into a useful form of energy
  • Using wind turbines to make electrical power, windmills for mechanical power
  • windpumps for water pumping or drainage, or sails to propel ships.
  • It is very consistent from year to year
  • but has significant variation over shorter time scales

USEFUL

  • Wind power, as an alternative to fossil fuels, is plentiful, renewable, widely distributed, clean
  • produces no greenhouse gas emissions during operation and uses little land
  • Remote areas that are not connected to the electricity power grid can use wind turbines
  • to produce their own supply
  • Renewable and sustainable

DOWNSIDES

  • The strength of the wind is not constant, this mean wind turbines
  • do not produce the same amount of energy at all time
  • Wind turbines are noisy
  • Only produce considerable amount of energy
  • Cost a lot of money to build and aquire one

EFFECTS ON ENVIRONMENT

  • generally less problematic than those from other power sources.
  • The environmental impact of wind power is relatively minor in terms of pollution
  • Wind power consumes no fuel, and emits no air pollution, unlike fossil fuel power sources
  • Impact wild life, like birds or bats
  • Localized impact on night-time temperatures and weather
